School of Shimmy Presents: **Fan Dancing with Balla Fire**
March 10, 7-9pm
Center for Sex and Culture 1349 Mission St, SF CA
Balla Fire has been seen flittering about stages all over the Bay Area and will teach you how to conceal and reveal with your fans. Various techniques and movements will be discussed. Learn to let the fans do the work as you move about, behind, and beneath them. BYO fans if you have them, any fans will do, as will a couple of mead notebooks, trash can lids, large serving platters, or anything your imagination can conjure. Fixed open ostrich feather fans and veiled fans will be used for demonstration, or Balla may snag your trash can lids to share tips and tricks. Small folding fans will also be provided to students. Fan (or trash can lid) dancing doesn’t have to be intimidating. Come dance and giggle with us for the evening.  About this teacher: Miss Balla Fire, cofounder of Sin Sisters Burlesque in Santa Cruz, has left a swath of creative destruction on the burlesque landscape since 2005, a natural progression from the trail of broken hearts and stolen souls from her more vernal and carefree days. Once she began performing, this ingrained pattern of aggressive invasion gave her the social grace to rapidly become one of the premier creative leads in the Bay Area’s rich burlesque scene. Featuring regularly as one of the brightest stars in all Bay Area shows. In her hometown of Santa Cruz, the Sin Sisters reign supreme with one of the biggest and most elegant monthly burlesque shows in the country, on the second Saturday of each month. And they also beckon you to join their glamorous world by offering burlesque classes for all skill levels. For more information (or to get your pants back), seesinsistersburlesque.com.

School of Shimmy presents: The Burlesque Body: It’s not what you think!

February 10th, 2:00pm - 4:00pm

Center for Sex and Culture: 1349 Mission St. San Francisco

Dottie Lux is a 10 year burlesque performer (NYC and SF), producer of SF’s only twice weekly burlesque show, Red Hots Burlesque, and founder of School of Shimmy. This is the SF debut of this new 2 hour workshop designed to give you permission to get to know your body and how to show it off in the best light. This class is a great addition to any performers’ wealth of knowledge or for anyone who wants to get a better sense of their body. The desire to be challenged and have a great evening is a must. Learn to stand on your own two feet and be sure in that stance. As solo performers we must command the stage with only our bodies while everyday life can challenge the idea of a woman claiming space! Get the Burlesque Body you are looking for and be amazed when you find your mind is the most powerful muscle you can work out. This class will include confidence building exercises and a discussion on everyday harm reduction as well as creating a strong silhouette. Find your power pose and bring it with you everywhere!

Lets face it, being a Burlesque performer has it’s perks! But with all the glitz and glamor, there can still be some last minute road blocks on the path to undressing with grace and style. Even when you are prepared to the fullest, there can always be last minute issues that need to be fixed. What happens when your music doesn’t work? Even worse, what if you are already on stage and it skips?! Maybe your zipper sticks or your panties get stuck around your ankles!?! Fear not, because The Bosom Buddies, GiGi La Femme and Anita Cookie, are here to help. From what to do when the stage doesn’t exist to tips on how to fix last minute costume malfunctions, these two have a solution for it all!

About these teachers:
Anita Cookie is the charmingly inebriated burlesque star whose sparkling singing voice, dynamite shimmy and intoxicated wit have been called everything from “hilarious” (NYTheater.com) to “sizzling hot” (Go Magazine). Originally hailing from the tan line-free shores of the Pacific, she took the stages of New York by storm and can be seen every night knocking audiences out of their chairs around the city, and across the continent from Key West to Toronto. A Golden Pastie Award winner at the New York Burlesque Festival, Anita is also one-third of the quirky music trio Gigi & Pop, winners of the first-ever “Best Variety Act” trophy at the Burlesque Hall of Fame Pageant 2009 in Las Vegas. As a producer, she’s created boozier, more naked versions of classic game shows and talk shows, and been on multiple national tours as a part of Dangerous Curves Ahead: Burlesque on the Go-Go
Since 2005, GiGi La Femme has been named one of New York City’s sultriest striptease stars and is the producer of Revealed Burlesque. A Golden Pastie Award winner for Best Booty Shaker 2009, Perfect Posterior 2011 and Miss Coney Island 2010, the multi-talented bump n grinder, go-go girl, chanteuse and pin-up model has traveled the nation with the ladies of Dangerous Curves Ahead: Burlesque on the Go-Go performing her super hot signature acts in addition to teaming up with her favorite songstress and Bosom Buddy: Anita Cookie! This October, she left her hometown of New York City and landed in Nashville, TN! 4:30 ON STAGE BEAUTY BASICS $30 - come to both and save $10.
Ultimate Self Confidence is the radical and astonishing workshop that everyone is talking about! As seen in the Village Voice “Best of New York 2008” guide. World Famous *BOB* has created a workshop to encourage women (the class is currently women-only, though a co-ed version is planned to be offered in the future) to take larger steps towards who they ultimately want to be - whether it is on stage or in everyday life situations. Confidence is something that is only true when it is created by ourselves and *BOB* will guide you through a series of fun and sometimes challenging exercises to create “courage references” that are guaranteed to stay with you long after you’ve left class. Come ready to work and be prepared to amaze even yourself! Nothing is hotter or more powerful than self-confidence. *BOB*’s intense and astonishing, boundary-shattering class is known for changing lives and opening minds. You will be exposed and your body fears will be challenged and you will prevail. Promptness is crucial to this class - 10 minutes after it is scheduled to start no one will be allowed in.
