Tuesday, April 24, 2012, 07:30pm
$15-30 sliding scale
The market for erotic fiction and nonfiction is booming! There actually is a secret to writing great erotica - and you’ll discover just what that is in this fun, hands-on workshop with well-known erotica writer and teacher M. Christian.
For the beginning writer, erotica can be the ideal place to begin writing, getting published, and — best of all — earning money. And for the experienced writer, erotica can be an excellent way to beef up your resume and hone your writing skills. M. Christian will review the varieties of personal and literary expression possible in this exciting and expanding field. He’ll also teach you techniques for creating love and sex scenes that sizzle. Plus: current pay rates, how to write for a wide variety of erotic genres, where and how to submit your erotic writing, and more. M. Christian is - among many things - an acknowledged master of erotica with more than 400 stories in such anthologies as Best American Erotica, Best Gay Erotica, Best Lesbian Erotica, Best Bisexual Erotica, Best Fetish Erotica, and many, many other anthologies, magazines, and Web sites. Opening Reception: The Subtle Horror of the Everyday - New work by Finley Coyl

Friday, January 06, 2012, 06:00pm - 09:00pm

CSC, 1349 Mission Street (at Grace Street between 9th and 10th streets) in San Francisco

Viewings by appointment January 6 - 27, 2012  and at other CSC Events.

Finley Coyl’s new work will be installed in the CSC gallery for January as a mural-sized unravelling of the grotesque, the fantasized, the ridiculous, the pretty, the struggle, and the obscene. These large-scale drawings in marker, pencil and paint on canvas with found objects and digital prints indirectly reference Picasso’s Guernica from a perspective of queer potential amidst a crumbling economic landscape.

Coyl’s fantastic experiments in large-scale figurative work will transform the entire CSC space. While this is a traditional wall-based piece, it would not be a stretch to speak of this work in terms of an installation as much as a drawing or painting.

The Center for Sex and Culture proudly presents Dirty Comics!

Erotic comics are as old as comics themselves. While comics were
thought of as the medium of adolescents for much of the twentieth
century, erotic work has always permeated the form. Jon Macy has
curated a show featuring the work of over thirty contemporary artists.
Some are known for their erotic work and others are known for more
mainstream work and their erotic work is rarely seen. Both art and
artists span a wide array of genders, orientations, races and ages. A
broad spectrum of tastes and styles are sure to provide something for
any viewer.

Jon Macy is a local erotic comic artist known for his work in gay porn
magazines, as well as his series Fearful Hunter and his recent Lambda
Literary Award winning graphic novel Teleny and Camille.

Show opens Friday October 7 from 6 to 9pm.

Thursday October 13 from 7pm, A Discussion of Yaoi:
Yaoi is a distinct form of erotic comic work featuring sex between men
as titillation  for a female audience.
Join us for a fascinating discussion led by Agnes Czaja

Tuesday October 18 from 7 to 10pm, Kinky Wonder Woman:
Boston Blake gives us a lasso laced lecture on the kinky origins and
innuendos of Americas most famous female super hero.
A deep view in to one of many crossover points between mainstream and
erotic comics.

The show is one of those “only in San Francisco” events that push the
boundaries of what we think comics could, or should, do with sex. Many
of the works are explicit while others delve into how we define, or
can’t define, sexuality.

I am so proud of what has been accomplished in the last week to get this very important library together and nearing future use here at the Center for Sex and Culture.

I cannot sufficiently begin to thank all the hard working interns and volunteers, none this could have happened without you. Your role is a service to our community.

On that note, please join this community as we celebrate Folsom St. Fair 2011, byGIVING TILL IT HURTS!!!

Come out to Folsom, get spanked, save the world.

Each year, Society of Janus holds a Charty Spanking and Flogging booth at Folsom Street Fair, the proceeds benefitting a local organization. This year, our designated beneficiary is Center for Sex & Culture
If you are a CSC supporter, we ask that you stop by the Janus booth on 9th between Folsom and Harrison and have some fun by getting spanked. Donations start at just $5 and there will be some really hot tops.

PS – Besides Janus’s generous sponsorship, we’ll be sharing a booth with Fantasy Makers again this year – more butt-warming and other naughtiness there too! And don’t miss our other Folsom Day goings-on:

NOT ONLY THAT! Here’s what our fiscal sponsee Mark I Chester is up to:

For Folsom I am doing a group exhibition of sexual and erotic photography.  The opening is Fri Sept. 23rd and the show will have open hours Sat and Sun of Folsom.  Mark also will be doing a digital pix special on Sat and Sun.  The show will be open by appointment thru October.
