Backstage and The Business of Burlesque

Get booked! Get Press! Let producers know who you are and learn how to utilize all social media tools as well as writing the press releases that will get you noticed. This class is taught by two of the bay area’s most popular burlesque producers, DOTTIE LUX and JUICY D LIGHT so you can be sure you are getting the inside scoop. With your new tips and tools you will appear not only gracious, but also professional. The things you will learn in this class will make performing such a more pleasant experience for yourself, the stage manager, stage kitten and producer. Following these guidelines will help ensure you being asked back by producers and recommended by your peers. Please bring a notebook and any questions you may have on this topic.
About this teacher: Ms. Juicy D. Light has been been back stage of many clubs, bars, and theaters over her 30 years of experience. Staring her career as a stage manager and director, she earned her Actor’s Equity Card. Over her 15 years as a professional, union stage manager she worked for major houses including the Lorraine Hansberry Theater, Asian American Theater Company and San Francisco’s Free Shakespeare in the Park. In 2007 she founded Rubenesque Burlesque, a respected burlesque troupe, and has been known to perform as a solo artist particularly in New York, Seattle and San Francisco. As producer she runs First Friday Follies, a successful monthly in Oakland and has created Salacious Underground: a neo burlesque experience. Juicy D. Light earned her B.A from San Francisco State University in Theater Arts.
