June 22:THE SUPER QUEER OPEN MIC SHOW! part of the National Queer Arts Festival

June is finally on it’s way which means soon we will be having one of our happiest times a year, the month of PRIDE!

And to celebrate The San Francisco Queer Open Mic is going to have an amazing huge Pride Show! THE SUPER QUEER OPEN MIC SHOW!!!

During June, the SFQOM is going to be part of the National Queer Arts Festival! We are very happy and thankful to the Queer Cultural Center for their support.

So come celebrate 8 years, (that’s right folks 8 fricking fabulous queer as hell years) of providing a safe and sexy space for local emerging and established queer artists to come together and share their love, music, performances, writing and art.

The Theme of the National Queer Arts Festival is Milestones, and we got Milestones all over our faces! The Queer Open Mic I believe is a milestone in many queer artists lives in the community, particularly mine. But it’s not all about me folks, (who am I kidding, yes it is!) I know so many of our regulars have had life changing, life affirming and life altering experiences because of the San Francisco Queer Open Mic, which is why I felt we belonged in the festival. The two people featuring are folks who have been regulars with us for a long time and we could not be prouder to give them their first features!

TWO FEATURES! TWO SPECIAL GUESTS! and of course an Open Mic!

FEATURING FOR THE FIRST TIME EVER!

AMY DENTATA started performing music at open mics in her hometown of Cleveland, Ohio, before moving to the Bay to pursue a career as an artist. While attending school in San Francisco, she simultaneously discovered the SF Queer Open Mic and a love for spoken word. Amy is currently putting the finishing touches on Bite, a collection of poetry and short stories. Her work will also appear in Trans Bodies, Trans Selves, a resource guide for the trans community. This is her first feature performance.

DANA MORRIGAN is a humorist and was conceived in a short story by a latent genderqueer English professor in 1991 and was born at the San Francisco Queer Open Mic in July, 2008. She performs in a dizzying array of genres, and tickles people’s brains on Twitter under the name IdentityTBD. Before becoming a queer performer, Dana published scholarly articles on James Joyce and Samuel Beckett, wrote award-winning fiction, and was a Head Writer at Bloomingdale’s. She is proud to have been featured in the inspirational documentary Lemonade, and to have appeared naked on the cover of SSEX BBOX magazine.
