CSC is supported by its community near and far: people who value our project and wish to help us achieve our mission: providing diverse and accessible education about human sexuality. Donations of funds are deductible, as are materials (see below for more about donations of books, archival materials, office supplies, etc.). Unlike many non-profits, we do not subsist mainly on grants, though we are very grateful to all our institutional donors. Most of our support comes from people who attend CSC events and/or who make regular or one-time cash donations to help us support the library, one of our programs, or who become members.

How can you help? To start with, you can copy and forward this page, or send it as a link, to any individuals or lists you think would be interested in a sex-positive, community-based organization. It doesn’t matter whether or not CSC supporters live in the Bay Area; we plan programs of nation-wide relevance, plus almost everyone comes to San Francisco at some time or another and we love to welcome visitors from other places.

Help organize CSC benefits. Anyone with some time to devote and a good idea to develop is welcome to get involved! Besides raising money, CSC benefit events help like-minded people get together and thus they help create community. Events can be held at our space in San Francisco, elsewhere, even in your own home (if you want to host a CSC house party let us know, and we'll send you information to present if we can't join you ourselves).

Sign up for our mailing list. Our calendar of events usually goes out twice monthly. We would like to invite you to classes, workshops, salons, and fundraisers. Email us (please let us know that you are over 18) or, better yet, sign up via the button on our home page. 18 and over only, please.

Volunteer your time. We have many volunteer opportunities; here are just a few:

* Learn to work in our library and arrange regular cataloguing shifts.
* Help archive other materials.
* Assist us in staffing events.
* Pitch in and help us take care of our space.
* Staff tables and booths at other community events.

Donate books and sexologically significant materials. We already have several thousand volumes and expect that CSC will be the biggest publicly accessible sexuality research library in the US (maybe even the world!). We are especially eager to collect more materials representing unusual sexual practices and interests; academic materials, including journals and dissertations; pre-1970s materials; private documentations such as sex diaries or erotic autobiographies; and sexuality-relevant archival items such as flyers, catalogs, conference programs, etc. If you have questions as to whether we want what you might have to donate, ask! We are also very interested in acquiring estate collections of erotic material. We will provide a donation letter for a donor or her/his family. We have only one content restriction in our donations policy: we will not under any circumstances accept material depicting underage models who have been photographed, videotaped, or filmed. The Center for Sex & Culture does not accept or archive child pornography or other materials depicting models under the age of 18. CSC does not to the best of our knowledge own, nor will we accept, child porn; to do so is in violation of US law. CSC personnel includes therapists and doctors who are required reporters by law; they must notify authorities of any child porn that is donated to us.

About donations: We are required to report donors' names to the IRS who give us cash or materials whose value is over $5000 per year. Some of our larger donors of funds choose to donate through targeted giving foundations for this reason. If you donate materials rather than cash: According to our understanding of IRS policy, you are responsible for setting the items’ value when you take your deduction. If you would like to inform us of this valuation sum it would be helpful to us, but you are not required to do so. Please be aware that if you set your donations’ value at over $5000, the IRS may require you to have the materials independently appraised.

Thank you for your support!
