Many elements of our lives can facilitate great sex, OR sex that isn't very pleasurable at all: the effects of good or bad sex education, role models, shame and harsh experiences, our ability to communicate. Pleasure activist and PhD sexologist Carol Queen explores these, and the paths to great sex she's traveled along the way, in an intimate talk for people of all sexual experience levels. Mixing details of her own journey with academic information and the insights of various sexuality communities, she'll look at the role of partnering and love, casual experiences, identity and affiliation, and of course learning solo.

I'll definitely be scheduling a meeting with photographer Barbara Nitke (who is releasing a new book of fine art/documentary photos she took on porn sets in the 1980s—CSC is looking to work with her to get it out into the world), and other NYC-based colleagues.

Friday-Sunday, February 17-19, Washington, DC: Carol teaches classes at Winter Fire, an annual sexuality conference. Open to WF attendees only. Her topics:



•   PoMosexuality: WAY beyond the binaries

Our culture really wants things to be either/or: gay or straight, male or female, this or that. But for many of us, living between the binaries feels much more natural -- and some of us live lives that turn the binaries into beautiful celtic knots, or fractals, or WAY not either/or. Let's talk about that! Carol Queen will start us off with a riff based on the book she co-edited, PoMoSexuals, and then we'll get into the whys and whats of identity, our complicated and lovely lives, and anything else that these ideas bring up.

•   Bend Over Boyfriend: Male Anal Play

He's got a prostate, but do you ever play with it? Strap-ons are not just for lesbians, you know! Carol Queen, co-star of the cult sex ed movie Bend Over Boyfriend, will walk you thorough the ins and outs! This is especially recommended for couples who like roleplay or role reversal AND for couples interested in more traditional anal sex, because there's no better way to become a great anal top than by learning what the bottom is experiencing first hand. Every single one of us has sexual experiences, fantasies and desires that could be transformed into erotic stories or autobiographical pieces, or just preserved in a private journal. Let's share our writing and get useful tips and loving, useful  feedback from other aficionados of the erotic written word! Carol Queen, author of The Leather Daddy and the Femme, leads a circle based on the Erotic Reading Circle at the Center for Sex & Culture in SF. Bring some of your work to share. •   Exhibitionism circle (dress hot --or be naked -- and talk about what that's like)

Carol Queen, author of Exhibitionism for the Shy, leads a circle for sexy show-offs who want to delve deeper into the whys and hows of exhibitionism. Come display yourself in your favorite outfit and share your favorites venues and playstyles that involve exhibitionism and voyeurism -- inspire each other! We'll also cover consent and public play, how to get over sexual shyness, and more.
